San Francisco’s primary James Herman Cruise Terminal is at Pier 27 on The Embarcadero. Pier 35 can serve as a secondary berth during busy periods, so confirm the pier when the ship schedule or boarding pass is issued.
The Port of San Francisco describes Pier 27 as about a 20-minute walk from Embarcadero BART and Muni station. The closest streetcar stop is The Embarcadero and Sansome Street, while taxis and private vehicles can drop passengers at the terminal hall.

Long Beach Airport is the closest practical airport, but its flight network is smaller than LAX. Carnival sells eligible transfers from both LAX and Long Beach Airport within specified flight-arrival windows, yet arriving one day early remains safer.
Do not ask a driver for “the LA cruise port.” Give the Long Beach terminal address and ship name, especially if another traveler in the vehicle is sailing from San Pedro.
San Diego: easiest terminal-to-city combination
San Diego’s B Street Cruise Ship Terminal and Broadway Pier sit beside each other on the downtown Embarcadero. Waterfront hotels, the Santa Fe Depot, Little Italy, and several museums are close enough to make a car-free pre-cruise stay realistic.
