4 Sandals Overwater Bungalow Resorts: Rooms & Reopenings
Sandals has four resorts with genuine overwater accommodations, but they do not all offer the same room or the same trip.
Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent are the operating choices right now, while Jamaica’s South Coast and Caribbean Cay are bookable for stays beginning after their scheduled 2026 reopenings.

Verify direct: Sandals’ official overwater-bungalow page is the best current lineup check. For property-specific details, use the official Grande St. Lucian and South Coast pages before booking.
The current Sandals overwater bungalow list
- Sandals Grande St. Lucian: Operating, with the classic Overwater Honeymoon Butler Bungalow.
- Sandals Saint Vincent: Operating, with the two-story Vincy Overwater Villa.
- Sandals South Coast: Scheduled to reopen November 18, 2026 and accepting future bookings.
- Sandals Caribbean Cay: Formerly Sandals Royal Caribbean, scheduled to reopen December 18, 2026 and accepting future bookings.

1. Sandals Grande St. Lucian: best for a classic bungalow
Grande St. Lucian is my easiest recommendation for couples who want the recognizable Sandals overwater experience. The Overwater Honeymoon Butler Bungalow has glass floor panels, an outdoor soaking tub for two, overwater hammocks, a king bed, butler service, room service, and direct access to the sea.
The category also includes a private car airport transfer. That is a valuable perk in Saint Lucia because the drive from Hewanorra International Airport to Gros Islet can be one of the least romantic parts of an otherwise very romantic trip.
The resort itself is a major strength. You get the special bungalow without giving up restaurants, pools, beach time, water sports, and the option to explore more of Saint Lucia.
The tradeoffs
The drive from UVF is long enough that I’d not book only two nights here unless the flight schedule is unusually convenient. A short stay can turn into a lot of airport time for not much relaxed bungalow time.
Direct water access also depends on real ocean conditions. Wind, current, depth, visibility, and maintenance can affect whether the private steps feel inviting on a particular day.
Choose Grande St. Lucian when you want the established single-level bungalow design and a lively full-service resort around it. If you care more about having a dramatic villa than a classic bungalow, Saint Vincent is more interesting.

2. Sandals Saint Vincent: best for space and modern design
The Vincy Overwater Two-Story Villa is the most distinctive room in the Sandals overwater lineup. It measures 1,248 square feet and gives couples a main living level over the water plus a separate upper deck for lounging and views.
The villa includes a king bed, soaking tub, butler service, room service, premium in-room bar, and airport transfer. Butler-level guests can also request a complimentary boat transfer, subject to availability and weather.
This is the Sandals room I’d choose if the villa itself is a major part of the vacation. The second level gives two people more usable private outdoor space than the traditional one-level bungalow format.
The tradeoffs
Two stories also mean stairs, so this is not automatically the best room for every couple. If either traveler has knee, balance, or mobility concerns, look at the full path between the bedroom, bathroom, deck, beach, restaurants, and water access.
Saint Vincent also feels different from Saint Lucia. The resort sits in a lush cove and the island has a greener, less familiar atmosphere, so I’d choose it because the destination appeals to you too.
Sandals has newer land-based room concepts at Saint Vincent as well, but those are not substitutes for the Vincy overwater villa. A private pool or rooftop deck does not make a land villa overwater.
3. Sandals South Coast: future Jamaica stay after November reopening
Sandals South Coast is the Jamaica option for couples who like a quieter, more removed resort setting. Its heart-shaped overwater pier and classic bungalow design are among the most recognizable in the Sandals collection.
The resort is scheduled to reopen on November 18, 2026 and is accepting bookings for stays beginning after that date. Until it actually reopens, I’d treat every reservation as a future product rather than an operating hotel.
The bungalows pair glass floor panels, overwater hammocks, an outdoor soaking tub, butler service, and sea access with the larger South Coast resort. The quieter location is a big part of the appeal.
The tradeoffs
South Coast is farther from Sangster International Airport than the Montego Bay resorts. That transfer is worth it if seclusion is part of the dream, but it can feel excessive for a very short stay.
A reopening also creates a different kind of uncertainty. Restaurants, landscaping, staffing rhythms, and construction punch-list work can take time to settle even when the official opening date holds.
Book for dates comfortably after November 18 if this is your favorite layout. If you hate being an early guest at a newly reopened resort, wait for fresh post-reopening feedback.

4. Sandals Caribbean Cay: future private-island villas
Sandals Royal Caribbean is becoming Sandals Caribbean Cay and is scheduled to reopen on December 18, 2026. The private offshore island remains part of the resort, and the overwater category is the only Sandals option tied to a private infinity-pool villa.
This is the collection’s most distinctive future choice if having your own pool matters as much as being above the sea. You also get the unusual experience of staying on an offshore island while remaining connected to a much larger Montego Bay resort.
The property is close to the airport compared with South Coast, which makes it much easier for a shorter trip. Top room categories also come with premium transfer benefits.
The tradeoffs
The private-island setting adds another layer of transportation inside the vacation. Water-taxi timing, bad weather, mobility assistance, and after-hours movement matter more here than they do in a bungalow connected directly to the main resort.
Not rely on a pre-renovation review to tell you exactly how the post-reopening restaurants, pool, and private-island flow will feel. The room concept is compelling, but the finished resort needs to be experienced after reopening.
This is the future pick for couples who want a private infinity pool and easy Montego Bay access. It is not an option for travel before December 18, 2026.
Bungalow versus villa: the words matter
At Sandals, the room code matters more than whether marketing calls something a bungalow or villa. Grande St. Lucian and South Coast use the classic single-level bungalow concept, while Saint Vincent is a two-story villa.
Caribbean Cay adds the collection’s private infinity-pool overwater villa. Do not assume every Sandals overwater room has a private pool just because the collection page shows one.
The common thread is butler-level service, glass-floor features, soaking tubs, and an overwater setting, but the actual layout and outdoor space vary. Compare the exact room rather than choosing a resort solely from one hero image.
If you are also considering Asia, my Maldives overwater value guide explains why a lower nightly rate can still produce a more expensive trip after transfers and meal plans.

What the all-inclusive price covers
Sandals packages most of the vacation into one rate, including dining, drinks, many land and water sports, Wi-Fi, taxes, gratuities, and standard airport transfers. Certified scuba diving is also included subject to certification, medical requirements, schedules, and resort conditions.
The overwater categories add Butler Elite service and in-room dining. That can make the rate easier to justify for couples who will actually use room service, resort dining, bars, water sports, and the bungalow itself.
Butler service is useful, but it is not magic. A butler cannot make unsafe sea conditions swimmable, create a sold-out restaurant table, or guarantee late checkout.
What usually costs extra
- International airfare unless purchased in a package
- Travel insurance and medical care
- Island Routes excursions
- Red Lane Spa treatments
- Private candlelight dinners and selected celebrations
- Optional premium transfer upgrades
- Tips to butlers and spa staff under Sandals’ exceptions
Compare the actual inclusions on your room confirmation rather than assuming the most expensive category makes every optional experience free.
How much does a Sandals overwater bungalow cost?
There is no useful universal nightly price because Sandals rates move by resort, dates, room category, promotion, and length of stay. The cheapest resort-wide price you see in an ad is almost never the overwater room.
When comparing, use the exact room code and multiply the displayed per-person rate by two adults and the full number of nights. Then add flights, insurance, spa time, excursions, and any other extras you actually plan to buy.
A split stay is one of the smarter ways to try the experience. Spending most of the vacation in a lower-priced room and finishing with two or three overwater nights can keep the special part without paying the premium for an entire week.

Which Sandals overwater resort fits you?
Choose Grande St. Lucian for resort variety
Choose Saint Lucia when you want the classic bungalow plus a large resort and plenty to do beyond the room. The longer airport drive is the main logistical downside.
Choose Saint Vincent for the room itself
Choose Saint Vincent when the two-story villa and private outdoor space are the biggest draw. It is the most architecturally different option in the collection.
Choose South Coast for future seclusion
Choose South Coast for travel after its scheduled November 18, 2026 reopening when Jamaica’s quieter south coast sounds more appealing than Montego Bay convenience.
Choose Caribbean Cay for a future private pool
Choose Caribbean Cay for travel after its scheduled December 18, 2026 reopening when a private infinity pool and offshore-island setting are worth more to you than having a fully established post-renovation track record.
For alternatives beyond Sandals, my Caribbean overwater bungalow guide compares boutique stays, private islands, Belize, Panama, Antigua, Aruba, and Mexico.
Water access and safety
A private ladder is an amenity, not a guarantee that the sea is safe to enter at every moment. Follow resort guidance on current, waves, weather, sea life, and nighttime swimming.
Anyone with limited upper-body strength should look closely at ladder design. A beautiful platform is not very useful if getting back out of the water feels difficult.
Overwater stays are also a good reason to be more careful around alcohol and swimming. The whole point is having the sea outside your door, which makes ordinary water-safety habits more important rather than less.
Booking checklist
- Confirm the resort is operating on your arrival date.
- Match the exact room name and code across your quote and confirmation.
- Check whether your category is a bungalow or villa and whether it has a private pool.
- Verify the airport, transfer type, travel time, baggage rules, and pickup instructions.
- Ask about mobility, deck stairs, and alternative water access if needed.
- Save the cancellation and renovation-disruption terms.
- Insure every nonrefundable part of the trip you cannot afford to lose.
I also take screenshots of the room description when I book a specialty category. Resort names and renovation plans can change between deposit and arrival, but your confirmation should make the product you bought clear.
If the Sandals price feels hard to justify, compare the room itself with my Belize overwater picks rather than assuming every Caribbean overwater stay includes the same experience.
For the latest room and reopening details, use Sandals’ official overwater page, plus the current South Coast page and Caribbean Cay page.
My honest verdict
Grande St. Lucian is the strongest classic choice right now, while Saint Vincent is the more distinctive modern splurge. South Coast and Caribbean Cay are future Jamaica options until their scheduled November and December 2026 reopenings actually happen.
Choose the island first, then the exact room. The overwater premium only feels worth it when the transfer, resort atmosphere, room layout, water access, and amount of time you will spend in the bungalow all fit the way you travel.
